The MetService App - it's your everyday weather app
The MetService NZ Weather App is free and is available NOW in the app store for Android and iPhone.
As well as a fresh new design and new functionality, we have introduced four weather icons for the day, so you can see how the weather is expected to change through the day. The app includes all your trusty severe weather information for your location so you can be prepared.
We've aimed to pack in all the essential information for your everyday weather use, while keeping it simple and easy to use.
Here's an outline of some of the new features to help you make the most of your app.
Customise your weather content
You can choose some of the information you would like to show on your home screen and the order this appears. If you use the rain radar all the time, place this near the top of your screen. If you don't want to see recommended layers of clothing information, remove this from your Snippits.
To customise your information, select the menu button (top left), then select Customise.
Tap into modules to see a detailed view
To view more detail, tap on a module (for example the 2 hourly graph) to expand the information available.
Create a list of your favourite forecast locations
The app automatically selects the location on your home screen if you have geo-locate turned on. You can add a set list of locations to be able to access easily, by swiping left from your home screen.
Select the location balloon on the top right of your home screen to view your locations. To add a new location, select 'Find a location', you can search by city, town or suburb.
Select the Edit button (top right) to delete any unwanted locations in your list. You can also change the order they appear by clicking and dragging the location higher or lower in the list. Select 'Done' when you are finished editing. When returning to your home screen, swipe left to access your set locations.
Using the Rain Radar and 3 Day Rain Forecast Maps
To view the sequence of rain radar or 3 Day Rain Forecast maps, tap into the Rain Radar module. You can either use the play button on the bottom left of the screen, or alternatively move your finger back and forward along the carousel of images at the bottom of the screen.
View a key for the Weather Icons
To find out what a weather icon might mean, tap into the 3 Day Forecast to view the 10 Day Forecast and then click on the 'i' button on the top right of the screen.
View the Traffic Cams
If traffic cams are available for your location, they will show on your home screen. Once tapping into the traffic cams module, you can drag the map around and 'pinch and zoom' to easily access the traffic cam you want to view. Tap on the cam to view the latest image. Alternatively you can view a dropdown list of traffic cams by selecting the location balloon on the top right, inside the traffic cams module.
Quickly view the weather icons for the next 5 days
Tap on today's forecast near the top of your home screen to see a quick view of the weather icons for the next 5 days appear along the side of your screen.
Heading out of mobile range? No problem
The app has an offline mode, so you can still access the last forecast you downloaded when our of mobile range, for a limited time.
