Investing in forecasting capability

Investing in forecasting capability means investing in people, and professional development is built into every stage of the journey at MetService. From our graduate pathway, including the Master of Meteorology programme with Victoria University of Wellington, through advanced operational and leadership training, learning doesn’t stop once our people join the forecasting floor.

Over the coming weeks, our forecasting teams are balancing day-to-day operations with a strong focus on development and upskilling through a range of workshops and training opportunities. Pictured in our training room, are our meteorologists taking part in the latest Lead Induction/Bridging course.

The Lead Induction course supports meteorologists preparing for future leadership opportunities and is delivered as staff become ready for the next step in their development. Professional development for our forecasters also includes:

• Annual Fog Workshops for Aviation Forecasters

• Seasonal Development workshops for the Public Weather Team

• A Snow Workshop open across the wider forecasting room

•Thunderstorm forecasting workshop (held in spring, ahead of the main convective season).

Winter-focused sessions cover practical snow forecasting, frost, katabatic winds and other seasonal weather patterns that can create complex forecasting conditions.

Building forecasting capability is an ongoing process and one we’re proud to support at every level. You can find out more about what it takes to become a meteorologist here: https://lnkd.in/eVGxH46e
