Choose Ad Free was a limited time offer which gave MetService NZ Weather App users the opportunity to remove advertising.

Advertising on our app and website funds much of the public service we provide. The Choose Ad Free subscription provides an option for people who to pay an ongoing cost to support MetService directly rather than see advertising in the app.

This offer is not currently available for new subscriptions. Everyone who signed up will be able to enjoy the ads free experience for at least 12 months from when they signed up.

Why is the offer for a limited time?  

The limited time offer will help us understand if there is enough interest to support an ongoing ad free or premium service. 

Do I have to pay upfront, or can I pay monthly?  

You can either pay for a year upfront, or in monthly payments. The monthly option will be available for at least 12 months at the price you subscribed at, following that period you may not be able to renew your subscription. If you cancel your monthly subscription early, you may not be able to restart it.

I've subscribed but I’m still seeing ads on the website. Why is that?  

The ad free offer is for the MetService NZ Weather App only, as the subscription is handled through the iOS/Play Store.  

I have a phone and a tablet. Can I use my subscription across both?  

If they are connected to the same app/play store account, you can use your subscription across multiple devices.  

Why am I still seeing business logos on some forecasts? 

Choose ad free removes all display and pop-up advertising from the app. However, some of the forecast tools in our app, such as the Animates Pet Forecast or Placemakers Tradie Forecast, were developed with input from commercial partners. These forecasts will still feature the logos of the companies that helped create them, 

I bought the previous MetService app. Can I have the ad free version for free now?  

The previous app was available for five years and had a one-off download cost of $2.69 (Android) or $2.99 (iPhone). The download cost contributed to the app's initial development but didn't cover ongoing maintenance costs.

When we launched the new NZ Weather App, we communicated that anyone who purchased the original app in 2017 could request a refund. For those who didn’t get in touch, their purchase amount was donated to support the work of Surf Life Saving New Zealand.

As the original app is no longer supported or available, we’re unable to restore access to it.

Having ads allows us to keep the app running, add new features and helps more people access our weather information. For those who would prefer to support us directly, we've introduced an ad free subscription that’s been priced to help cover the ongoing costs of development, data, and support.
