Rainfall notifications beta

From June 2026, we’re running a beta test of rainfall notifications for users on Android who are signed up to the Android Beta programme and a small group of general users. The notifications will tell you when rain is forecast for the day. See frequently asked questions below.

  • Rain notifications are currently available to a limited group of general users. If you’d like to get access and don’t have it, you can sign up to the Android beta programme.

    1. Open the Play Store .

    2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.

    3. Tap Manage apps and devices, then Installed

    4. Tap the MetService app.

    5. Under 'Join the beta', tap Join.

  • Go to the left side menu, then tap Notifications and Rain Notifications. You can set up notifications for your current location or your “home” location (the first location at the top of the locations menu, with a house icon). If you set up notifications for your current location, you’ll need to give the app permission to check your location while you’re not using the app, so it can keep the notification location up to date.

  • Tap the feedback link in the notification or in the rain notification setup screen, or just email us at feedback@metservice.com.

  • Rainfall notifications are not currently available for all areas. If you’re in a rural area or far from an Automatic Weather Station location they may be unavailable.
