MetService hosts WMO President

It was a privilege to welcome World Meteorological Organization (WMO) President Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous to MetService in Wellington recently. The visit was hosted by Chief Executive Rob Harrison and Chris Noble, Head of Meteorological Integrity, alongside James Lunny, International Affairs Manager, Craig Delany, General Manager Commercial, and Belinda James, General Manager Customer and Engagement.

The visit provided us with an opportunity to showcase how MetService delivers trusted weather intelligence for New Zealand while contributing to the global meteorological community through our work with WMO and partners across the South-West Pacific region.

Discussions focused on strengthening regional collaboration, WMO governance and the vital role National Meteorological and Hydrological Services play in helping communities prepare for and respond to weather, water and climate-related hazards.

We were also pleased to share insights into MetService's unique operating model, which enables us to deliver both public safety services and world-class commercial weather solutions across sectors including aviation, marine, energy and infrastructure.

The visit concluded with a tour of our 24/7 forecast operations centre, where our meteorologists, oceanographers and data scientists work around the clock to turn complex data into actionable weather intelligence that helps keep New Zealanders and our international customers informed and prepared.
