Marine forecasts for users’ closest locations now available in App

After several years of partnership with Maritime New Zealand and PHD Aotearoa NZ, we are proud to announce a new collaboration for summer 2025/26: Marine forecasts for users’ closest locations are now available in the MetService NZ Weather App!

This new feature gives users instant access to recreational, boating, and (where available) paddleboarding forecasts - helping them make better decisions before heading out on the water.

Our collaboration began when market research revealed many New Zealanders did not realise the difference between an urban forecast (which excludes offshore winds) and a marine forecast. Together we set out to bridge that gap, educating users and delivering activity‑specific guidance for kayaking & paddleboarding.

Awareness has already improved, and by bringing marine forecasts directly into the app, we’re removing barriers and helping more Kiwis to stay safe as summer heats up.
