The performance of the New Zealand agribusiness sector is intrinsically linked to our weather systems. The MetService Group offers commercial customers a range of farming weather services designed to assist in planning for and understanding the implications of weather patterns.

The Group, for example, provides the agriculture and horticulture sectors with customised Long-Range Four-Week Weather Outlooks and commentary showing the weather patterns and rainfall and temperature variances for each of the following four weeks. These weekly forecasts differ from publicly-available weather forecasts in that they focus upon the overall ‘flavour’ of each of the four weeks ahead compared to what is typical for the time of year and the climate average.

The MetService Group is also working with partners, such as Agrigate - the joint venture between Fonterra Farm Source and Livestock Improvement Corporation - to innovate new products and services that will bring to farmers, contractors and agricultural suppliers deeper understanding of weather’s impacts on their operations, and where and how productivity improvements can be realised on-farm.
